South Boston's Jeff Burton who usually runs strong in Atlanta was up to 27-th place after 184 laps of the race.
Then several laps later Dick Trickle, running at the top of the track, hits the wall hard coming out of turn two bringing out the caution after 186 laps.
Two caution flags slowed the race near the end but after a record 36 lead changes Tony Stewart takes the checkered flag winning the MBNA America 400 his first win on a super speedway in some time.
