He says the hold up now is waiting for air quality at the site of the tire fire to improve. The E-P-A also has to secure permission from the owner of the tire dump to access the property.

Low clouds kept the Aero Commander in its hangar today, but once the weather clears it will fly over the tire dump and gather information on the fire.
Under contract to the E-P-A, the twin engine, high wing aircraft is equipped with high resolution cameras and equipment that can identify toxic chemicals.
It also uses infrared technology to help crews on the ground find the fire's hotspots.

Members of the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors say they've been criticized by some residents who believe the county did not do enough to prevent the tire fire.
But today they defended the steps they've taken during the last decade to address the problem.

A witness to a deadly shooting outside a Roanoke restaurant is now charged with passing counterfeit money.
A federal indictment against James Albert Bumbry Junior was unsealed today.

Bailey was shot during a scuffle in the parking lot of O'Charley's Restaurant in February.

The bankruptcy of a Florida travel company has left Virginia Tech and James Madison University thousands of dollars in the hole.
Tech's marching band and J-M-U's choir both made reservations last year with the company, International Sport.
The trips had to be canceled when the company filed for bankruptcy in November.
James Madison is trying to recover 49-thousand dollars, while students at Virginia Tech say they're owed about 67-hundred dollars.

Sheriff Frank Cassell says deputies found Sid (CLOUGH-er) Clower in some woods behind the county administration building this morning, after a brief search.
Cassell says Clower had a gun and was threatening to shoot himself.
Clower was taken into custody, without a struggle.
Cassell says county officials became concerned about Clower after he left a note on the desk of an assistant, indicating that he might harm himself.

Spurrier opened his first NFL mini-camp in a down pour at Redskins' Park.
About 55 players were in uniform for the first day of the three day camp including quarterback Danny Wuerffel. The other quarterback in camp, former Auburn great Dameyune Craig. Spurrier gave the team the playbook for the entire season today.

Winston Cup legend Darrell Waltrip is officially coming out of retirement and leaving the broadcast booth to race in the April 13th Advance Auto Parts 250 at the Martinsville Speedway.

Waltrip, who won 11 of his 84 Winston Cup events at Martinsville, will be reunited with his old crew chief Jeff Hammond for the race. Waltrip will drive a truck with his old number 17 on the side, and that truck knows how to find victory lane at Martinsville. In 1997 Rich Bickle won the race for DW. The truck Darrell will drive is owned in part by Mark Melling and Lynchburg businessman Jim Harris, a long time backer of Stacy Compton.
