Today, a grand jury returned murder indictments against two men -- formally charging them with the shooting death of a Roanoke convenience store clerk.

27-year-old Mark Neamo is charged with CAPITAL murder during an attempted robbery, along with nine other felonies.

Prosectors allege that he was the masked gunman who shot Joyce Parrish at the Texaco "Stop In" on Hershberger Road in February.
Today's indictments make him the first defendant charged in a death penalty case in Roanoke in more than four years.

Neamo's friend, 18-year-old Christopher Krug, was charged as an accomplice with the FIRST degree murder of Joyce Parrish. He also faces nine other felony indictments.
Prosecutors believe Krug shot convenience store clerk Steve Rivera in the shoulder.
BOTH men are being held without bond. They received court-appointed attorneys at a hearing this afternoon.
They also face separate charges of abduction and use of a firearm.

The Henry County Administrator could face up to 120 years in prison if convicted of stealing money from the county. Sid Clower was today indicted on six counts of embezzlement.

Special prosecutor Don Caldwell says Clower's accused of taking at least 200-thousand dollars out of county funds. As the criminal investigation unfolded last week, Clower and one of his assistants, Rosemary Pace, were suspended.

Now, Caldwell says investigators are focusing their attention on Clower and have NO other suspects in the case. The 50-year old was found wandering in a wooded area and threatening suicide while investigators searched his office last week.

Franklin County's director of public safety is back on the job after being convicted of brandishing a weapon.
The county administrator says Claude Webster was reinstated last week.
Webster was placed on administrative leave in February, after a Roanoke judge found him guilty of threatening a patron at a Wendy's drive thru with his handgun.
He was ordered to pay a 200 dollar fine and turn in his weapon.

VMI is saluting its marketing department for attracting more would-be cadets than ever before.

The Lexington institution says it's received 1-thousand 527 applications for the class of 2006. That's two more than the record set in 1965. After receiving just under 900 applications in 1995, VMI began a vigorous marketing campaign and boosted admissions by 70-percent over the next 7 years. Superintendent Major General Josiah Bunting says the change will allow the school to be more selective in choosing cadets.

An elderly Giles County man is seriously injured after crashing his car today. Police say 71-year-old James Brown was speeding away from Narrows on Route-460 after allegedly robbing two hardware stores.
Officials say he was NOT being pursued at the time of the crash but instead...lost control on a curvy portion of the road.

The Virginia Tech student hit by a car on campus last week has died. Hospital officials say Joseph Leotta passed away over the weekend. Leotta was hit last Wednesday crossing Washington Avenue near Cassell Coliseum. Official say the driver of the car is not being charged because neither speed nor alcohol were factors.
