No one knows yet how big this military operation is going to be - but
we are witnessing the opening maneuvers now.
(V/O)
Overnight Israeli tanks moved into several West Bank towns - including
of Qalquilya, just 15 miles from Tel Aviv - and areas around Bethlehem.
On Sunday afternoon - two suicide bombers blew up a restaurant - and a
clinic in separate attacks ...killing 14 people.
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon declared that Israel was at war...
(SOT TERROR! TERROR! TERROR!)...
In an exclusive interview with 60 Minutes - Sharon told Leslie Stahl he
was not yet sure what he would do with Yasser Arafat - whom he called
the enemy of the free world.
INSERT BITE: We don't have any intention of hurting him physically.
Question:
Q: What about expelling him?
A: We have to consider all the possible ways that would enable us to
uphold the terror.
Q: You might expel him?
A: I don't know (freeze Sharon)
Arafat is still penned into two rooms in his compound by Israeli tanks
and soldiers in the Palestinian town of Ramallah...
Israeli soldiers have also rounded up 100's of Palestinian men.
They say they're looking for militants and terrorists.. --
But the army has also arrested the local Palestinian policemen .....
and Palestinian sources accuse the army of shooting unarmed civilians
... claims the army denies...
Angry demonstrations in the West Bank are gathering steam - as
Palestinians demand a complete Israeli withdrawal.
ANCHOR TAG
Palestinian militants seem to be upping the ante by killing at least 10
men in the West Bank accused of collaborating with the Israelis.
