When we interviewed Lavonne Bundick at the scene-- she was grieving over the loss of her girlfriend Monica and apparently did NOT know her brother was the gunman.

Some students in Danville will get a day off from school tomorrow. About 150 students were forced out of the building this morning when a fire broke out in the auditorium of the Opportunity School. The students were later sent home. The blaze was quickly under control, but smoke heavily damaged the building.
The Opportunity School will be closed to students tomorrow. Staff will still have to report.

The U-S Forest Service is expected to release an environmental impact statement tomorrow regarding a proposed power line through the Jefferson National Forest.
In 1996, American Electric Power was denied permission to build a new line and asked to reroute it.
Last year the State Corporation Commission approved the new route from Wyoming County, West Virginia to Jackson's Ferry in Wythe County.
Since the Jefferson National Forest is in the path of the new route, the Forest Service is asked to give an opinion.

Tim Duncan was honored off the court today as the NBA named him the recipient of this season's IBM award. The honor is given annually to the top player in the league as determined by a complicated IBM computer program that measures a player's overall contribution to his team. He joins the likes of Magic, Jordan, Barkley and Shaq as a winner of this honor.

The Valley District lacrosse action is heating up as the season starts to pick up steam and last night two old rivals - Salem and Patrick Henry hooked up.

The Spartans came into the key district game unbeaten with a 4-and-0 record. Salem and defense would dominate in this one. Tyler Hale finds Nathan Mahan (MAN) he takes the pass and scores to make it 3-to-nothing in favor of the Spartans. Still in the first half, Salem's William Satterfield will get the assist as he distracts the goalie and finds a charging Hale at the net for the score. It's 4-to-nothing Salem at halftime. PH would rally and make things very interesting late in the third quarter. Billy Cameron passes to Jonathan Wing on the wing and he will fire one in to cut the Salem lead to 3. The Patriots then traded goals with Salem as Corey Hines runs the field and hits Shaun Butto, who takes it hard to the goal for the score. It's now 6-to-3.
