A gunman fatally shot a couple in Roanoke, then turned the gun on himself.

Police say 23- year old Bradley Bundick shot 22- year old Nathaniel Clay with a pistol-- as Clay fled across the street. The shooting was witnessed by a five year old boy-- who lives next door.

About 150 students were forced to evacuate when a fire occurred at a school in Danville. Officials say fire broke out around nine yesterday morning in the auditorium of the Opportunity School. The students were evacuated and later sent home. The blaze was quickly under control, but the building was heavily damaged by smoke.
The Opportunity School will be closed to students today. Staff will still have to report.

Today the U-S Forest Service will release an environmental impact statement.
It'll discuss a proposed power line through the Jefferson National Forest.
In 1996, American Electric Power was denied permission to build a new line and asked to reroute it.
Last year the State Corporation Commission approved the new route from Wyoming County, West Virginia to Jackson's Ferry in Wythe County.
Since the Jefferson National Forest is in the path of the new route, the Forest Service is asked to give an opinion.

Roanoke officials hope the Riverside Centre for Research and Technology will act as a magnet to attract hundreds of high-tech businesses, and thousands of new jobs to the area.
Yesterday, they celebrated the arrival of the first company in the redevelopment area.

A federal judge in Lynchburg had to decide if a father and daughter used the American tax laws to their advantage....or whether they scammed the government out of millions of dollars.
The judge ruled in favor of the government yesterday, when he sentenced the Amherst County pair to prison.

Shepherd's prison sentence was suspended. She has three-years of probation and will lose her driver's license for a year. In court yesterday, she testified that she suffers from anxiety attacks and that she wasn't taking her medication at the time of the accident. Her attorney says she's now under the care of a doctor.
