(( Jefferson Forest High school was built in the 1970's... and has recently endured its share of problems-- most notably when the stachybotrys bacteria was found inside the building.
Since then, debate over what to do with the aging school has widened...
But deciding whether to renovate Jefferson Forest or build a new school has been challenging.

The firm Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern recommend constructing a new building... an idea supported by many in the audience.

While it would cost about 43- million to construct a new building.
But those who have to make the decision say it won't be easy.

The school board will meet again on May 23rd to discuss the firm's recommendation in greater detail. But a date for a final decision has NOT yet been determined.

About 70 percent of the nation's t-v stations will miss the deadline mandated by the Federal Communications Commission .
Still no word from Attorney General Jerry Kilgore- when it comes to Confederate license plates.
Kilgore's considering an appeal to the federal ruling that allows a plate for the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
He was expected to announce his decision this evening.
The General Assembly approved the plate three years ago...but specifically said NO Confederate flag logo could go on it.
A federal appeals court upheld a ruling yesterday declaring the restriction unconstitutional.
One and half million dollars- That's how much damage the city of Bedford had from Sunday's tornado.
A total of 23 homes and 58 businesses were hit as the storm tore through the center of town Sunday night.
The local Ford dealership had one of the biggest losses- Cars were flipped and windows smashed.
Other businesses had their roofs peeled back or facades ripped off.. but things are returning to normal.

Authorities say "a half dozen" buildings were destroyed or suffered enough major damage that they may have to be condemned.
After 14 years in prison, the child- molesting preacher is back in Roanoke.
Pentecostal minister Tony (LAY-va) Leyva got out of prison this morning and returned to Roanoke.
It's been 14 years since he was convicted of sodomizing young boys.
He served the maximum sentenced under the old rules-- before parole was abolished.
(Lay-va) Leyva had been tried in state and federal courts in the Roanoke Valley.
He was released from Brunswick Prison, this morning, where state parole officers met the pastor and escorted him back to Roanoke.
The case dates back to the mid- 1980's when Leyva was leading revivals in Virginia and running a child prostitution ring on the side.
State probation and parole officials say he'll be under intensive supervision, wearing an electronic monitoring device. He plans to live at the Jefferson Lodge in downtown Roanoke, until he can find a job and a permanent home
It's been six days since a toddler disappeared from a San Diego playground-

and today the parents of the missing two-year-old pleaded for the public's help in finding him.

Jahi's stepfather says that he left the child alone for 15-minutes while he went to go get a soda from a vending machine.
Volunteers are helping police comb the area for any clues.
And a website has been set up with his picture.
The parents of Danielle Van Dam's have also been helping the toddler's parents cope with the situation.

A satellite television company in the New River Valley is celebrating an anniversary with new jobs.
Tomorrow marks Echostar's second year in Christiansburg.
They will hold a job fair from 7 am to 7 pm on Wednesday at the facility in the Falling Branch Industrial Park.
Echostar wants to hire 3-hundred customer service representatives to its call center.
Workers would provide technical support to satellite customers.

Ring says shifts are flexible and pay begins at 8-50 an hour.
Virginia's unemployment rate fell to four percent last month, the lowest level since last September.
The Virginia Employment Commission attributes the drop to fewer temporary and permanent factory layoffs- along with mild weather that allowed outdoor work to resume earlier than usual.
Fairfax City had the lowest unemployment.
Seven communities reported double-digit jobless rates including Halifax, Henry and Patrick counties and the city of Martinsville.
Trigon Health Care says its customers won't notice a thing when it merges with another insurance company.
Trigon plans to partner with Indianapolis-based Anthem Health Care sometime this year.
Trigon said today most members will receive a new insurance card in the mail, but not for at least another year.
Other than that, they likely won't see much difference.
If the merger is approved, the combined companies will serve 10 million people.

Roanoke City Police are celebrating another successful K-9 training program.
The Department today graduated six officer-dog teams from Basic Police K-9 school.
Included in the 12 week program are lessons in K-9 investigation techniques, patrol work, handler protection and health and legal issues.

The foxes are not in the dog house- but they have a dog as their new mom.
Danka, the female rotweiller is the proud foster mom of four fox cubs.
At First the dogs owner thought the babies were kittens.. but soon she realized they're fox cubs.
They're not afraid of people or dogs- so they may not be able to go back into the wild- they would make easy prey.
For now they're happy being in the dog house.
High school history is made on the diamond tonight, the Avs close out their series with Kinston.

The Avalanche closed out its 3 game series with Kinston last night by losing to the K-Tribe 8-to-7.

In one other baseball note - Grayson County's amazing Mountain Empire district winning run ended last night. Ft. Chiswell beat the Blue Devils 9-to-8 to end Grayson's 102 game district streak.
Doug Tuck had 6 rbis. The last time Ft. Chiswell beat Grayson was 1991.
In the N-B-A Playoffs, the Charlotte Hornets have advanced into the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals by taking the Magic out of Orlando in game four of their first round playoff series.

Doc Rivers Magic was playing catch-up all night, trailing by 10 in the Fourth Quarter.
Tracy McGrady did his part to keep the Magic close... burying this three pointer from the top of the key to cut the Charlotte lead to just five. McGrady finished with 35 points.
But, the Hornets get nasty...Jamal Magliore lowers the boom on McGrady and picks up a flagrant foul in the process
And, Baron Davis led the Hornets again with a triple-double scoring 29 points...the Hornets beat the Magic 102-to-85 to win the best-of-five series three games to one.

The annual event is geared to send all of the proceeds to the "Children's Miracle Network."
Items such as an autographed Larry Bird jersey, a Mike Skinner autographed quarterpanel from the Kodak Chevy to a Tiki Barber autographed Giants helmet to signed Michael Vick items to Pat Moss prints were on the block.
The auction raised just over $20 thousand dollars for the Children's Miracle Network.

Virginia Tech fullback Jarrett Ferguson was a the seventh round pick in the NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills, but like those lottery winners he isn't wuitting his day job just yet.
He returned from his first rookie camp in Buffalo this week to resume his physical education student teaching duties at Herman L.Horn elementary school where he teaches nine classes a day.

Rare John Lennon recordings went to some high bidders in London today...
The two cassette tapes went for a combined 195- thousand- dollars at Christie's Auction house.
Specialists thought that the never released recordings would bring in over 225-thousand dollars.
Also- Paul McCartney's handwritten notes for the song "Hey Jude" were supposed to have been auctioned off as well... but were taken off the lot late.
McCartney said that the notes were stolen from his home.
They were expected to go for 120-thousand dollars.
