A-E-P says more than 17-thousand Virginians are without power tonight, including several thousand in Franklin and Henry Counties.

The first began just after two o'clock.

It was much the same in the New River Valley.
As the rain and wind moved through Blacksburg, a number of trees went down.
Some residents returned from work to find cars crushed and their homes damaged.
In Botetourt County, lightning struck this home on Ridge Road near Read Mountain, sparking a small fire but causing no major damage.
And in Franklin County near Smith Mountain Lake, down power lines could be seen all over the roads.

The situation is much worse in parts of West Virginia tonight.
McDowell County, at the southern tip of the state, is under a state of emergency.
Some residents are stranded- The National Guard has sent two helicopters to the county to help get those people to safety.
Shelters have been set up in at least three area churches.
Emergency officials believe a man whose body was found this afternoon was a victim of the floods.

County, state and federal inspectors will assess damage from Sunday's tornado in Bedford County.

Emergency management officials will be touring damaged areas of the Route 460 corridor tomorrow between 10 a-m and 2 p-m.
They're asking home and business owners who suffered losses to be available during those hours to provide information about property value and insurance coverage.

The priest was arrested after a 24 year old man claimed he was sexually molested over a seven year period.

The rapes allegedly took place in Newton, Massachusetts. Starting in 1983...they continued for seven years. Paul Busa/Alleged victim when I was ten ...it was shoulder rubbing..outside of clothes. From six to eight or nine it was everything else. Shanley has been at the center of a long-running scandal in Boston..where catholic officials apparently shuttled the accused priest from church to church without taking steps to protect children. The charges are the first criminal charges to be filed against Shanley. He's been the focus of a civil law suit in the Boston Archdiocese. Court documents allege he advocated sex between men and boys..back in the 70's The priest is now in custody in San Diego ...it's not know if he will fight extradition to Massachusetts. ))

Trailing by three with time running out in regulation, Indiana's Reggie Miller banks in a three pointer to tie the score at 96 and send the game to overtime. The Nets held a two point lead in overtime, but it's Miller time again. This time Reggie drives in for the jam to send the game to a second overtime tied at 107.

Dale Earnhardt was many things, including part owner of the Kannapolis Intimidators minor league baseball team in North Carolina. Last night is was announced that on May 15th Cal Ripken, Junior will be in attendance with the franchise's number three uniform is retired. He will present the uniform to the Earnhardt family at the game.

The technology will be used in practice and testing this month to find out its effectiveness.
