Earlier today crews with American Electric Power worked on lines in the Smith Mountain Lake area. Officials say 5-thousand residents in that region were without power last night. That number was reduced to just under 500 this morning. Crews say they will be making temporary repairs to poles and lines to restore service as quickly as possible. At the peak of the storm, more than 17-thousand homes had lost service.

That warning came today during the launch of a national safety campaign aimed at reducing infant deaths. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says during a two-year period, at least 180 children under two died after being placed in adult beds. The data shows babies placed in improper beds face could become trapped between the bed and the wall or the bed and furniture. It also says children can fall-- or suffocate on pillows and other bedding. Officials say to make sure your baby crib meets safety guidelines and to put babies to sleep on their backs to avoid "Sudden Infant Death Syndrome".

Richmond International raceway was busy last night with the Busch series Hardees 250. This race was dominated by Bobby Hamilton Jr. who led a race high 159 laps, but he fell off the pace with engine trouble with eight laps to go and practically gift raps the checkered flag for Jason Keller. Keller wins for his third Busch victory of the season. Ashton Lewis was second, Greg Biffle third, Michael Waltrip fourth and Kevin Grubb fifth.
