At least one person is dead and six are missing in southwest Virginia after fast-moving thunderstorms swept through the state yesterday.
Rescue crews are searching along Knox Creek in Buchanan County for people who were swept away in severe floods.
A spokeswoman for the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office says one body has been recovered.
This morning, Governor Warner extended the state of emergency he declard earlier this week.
He also activated the National Guard to assist in Buchanan and Tazewell Counties where more than 100 homes were destroyed or heavily damaged.
Meanwhile flooding has led to two confirmed deaths in West Virginia--

Emergency officials are going door-to-door in McDowell County to make sure all residents are accounted for.
So far, eight people in the county are reported missing.
McDowell County is also under a state of EMERGENCY.
Thousands of homes in the area are still without power.
Yesterday's storms dumped as much as four inches of rain in six hours, sending floodwaters through McDowell County for the second time in less than a year.

It was much the same in the New River Valley.
As the rain and wind moved through Blacksburg, a number of trees went down.
Some residents returned from work to find cars crushed and their homes damaged.
In Botetourt County, lightning struck this home on Ridge Road near Read Mountain, sparking a small fire but causing no major damage.
And in Franklin County near Smith Mountain Lake, down power lines could be seen all over the roads.

Several people are dead after an Indian Air Force fighter jet crashed into a bank building and burst into flames.

The pilot says the engine of the Soviet- made MiG-21 failed.
He and the co- pilot ejected just in the nick of time.
The crash started a fire that killed at least seven and injured 20.
The bank building, a plywood warehouse and a commercial building containing shops all caught fire.
India's air force has grounded all M-i-G-21's used for training to conduct mechanical checks.

American workers are still feeling the effects of last year's recession.
The jobless rate is up to six percent -- its highest level in nearly eight years.
The government says it rose even though U-S companies added jobs for the first time in nine months.
But analysts don't expect the Federal Reserve to make any changes to interest rates when it meets next week.

Three sailors are grateful to be back on dry land after spending several hours clinging to their boat after it capsized in the Atlantic waters off of Florida.
