LOCATOR: NORWALK, CT (NATSOUND SKAKEL WALKS IN) 27 years after his neighbor was murdered 41-year old Michael Skakel is in a Connecticut Courtroom today denying he had anything to do with it. Skakel is accused of killing Martha Moxley back in 1975 when the two were 15 years old. This case has all the makings a mystery novel. There's money and fame--the players are both from wealthy families and Skakel is the nephew of Ethel Kennedy--the widow of Robert F. Kennedy. And there's the intrigue of watching prosecutors try to prove a murder case more than a quarter century old without an eyewitness and very little forensic evidence. Sot: Jonathan Benedict/Prosecutor. (pleased to be here) Investigators have traced the murder weapon--Moxley was bludgenoned to death by a golf club. The club was part of a set owned by Skakel's mother. In opening statements this morning prosecutors claim Skakel provided the evidence against himself through a number of
alleged confessions--including admissions they say he made during a stay at a substance abuse treatment center. sot: M
ichael Sherman/Defense Attorney "We've always maintained there were no confessions. Not to a babysitter, Not to a chauffer, Not to a barber, Not to the Fed Ex guy. Everybody seems to be coming out of the woodwork." Skakel's attorneys will challenge the credibility and reliability of those who claim he admitted the murder. Prosecutors struck the first blow this morning--calling Martha Moxley's mother, Dorothy to the stand. They hope to gain the jury's sympathy, it was Mrs. Moxley who campaigned for more than 26 years to find the person who killed her daughter. STANDUP: TO COME.

V-Dot says only one company has bid on the project to widen Interstate 81.
Officials say STAR Solutions submitted the only bid to widen all 325 miles of I-81 in Virginia to at least four lanes in each direction.
STAR's plan would restrict tractor trailers to some lanes, and would finish the project in 15 years.
The company would fund the project partly through tolls on big rigs, a move the trucking industry says will force some companies out of business and push trucks to use smaller roads.
Hospital patients in Alleghany County will soon be able to bridge 108 miles in just a few seconds.
Technology will link Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor with the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Doctors will also use it to share X-rays, CAT scans and lab slides ... speeding up diagnoses and cutting back patient travel time.

The Carolina League was in full swing yesterday, pitting the Hillcats against Salem at Merritt Hut....
[SUPER=03-Lynchburg/Avalanche vs. Hillcats; :00]
Some little leaguers and T-ballers were in the house last night, cheering on the Hillcats.
And they would have plenty to shout about last night.
Lynchburg's Ray Navrette hit the ball right at the pitcher, and the Avs are able to turn the 1 - 4- 3 double play, as the Salem defense looked good early.
But there is no defense for the home run.
Yurendell DeCaster rips the pitch completely out of the park to left field.
The Hillcats are in front 1-to-nothing in the bottom of the third.
Then, Lynchburg would make another statement in the fourth.
Josh Bonifay hits one over the wall to right centerfield.
Lynchburg goes on top 3-to-nothing, and the Hillcats beat the Avs, 5-to-1.
The two play again tonight at seven.
The Hillcats lead the seasonal series, 4 games to none.

But Sacramento controlled the game for much of the first half.
Bobby Jackson hits a three- pointer.
The Kings hold a 36-to-23 lead after the first period.
Then on the break, Chris Webber feeds Mike Bibby, who passes it back to Webber for the slam.
Dallas wins game two, 110 to 102.

And finally today,
It takes a special kind of athlete to last 22 DAYS on a tightrope--
Today acrobat Adili (Woo-show-ar) Wushouer broke a world record after he spent 22 days suspended on a high wire above a lake in Beijing.
A Canadian held the previous record.
You might think the 31- year-old would want some champagne or SLEEP to celebrate his achievement.
Adili decided to spend a few MORE days on the tightrope, in hopes of making HIS record un- beatable.
At this point, Adili's planning to step down from the tightrope on Saturday...
