Carilion Health system "picked four" yesterday -- four insurance partners whose customers will have access to Carilion's discount pricing.
Those companies are Aetna, CIGNA, Southern Health Services and Unicare.
Trigon, the region's largest health insurance provider, did not make the cut.

According to Carilion, Trigon customers will still receive a discount -- but customers of these new partners will receive an even bigger discount.

Here are some stats on the new partners.
Aetna specializes in group benefits and has about 15 million members nationwide.
CIGNA provides employee benefits. It's got 14.3 million members, 300 thousand Virginians.
Southern health provides insurance for small and mid-size groups in the region.
Finally, Unicare specializes in small group and individual benefits for customers in 48 states.

Sources tell us Trigon wasn't pleased with the new partnership offer Carilion made.
Though their current partnership will remain in affect until January of 2003. After that -- it's possible Trigon insurance premiums could go up.
