A police chase ends in a fatal accident this morning in Roanoke.

[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=03-Roanoke/This Morning]

Authorities tell us it started when the victim passed through a sobriety checkpoint at the Roanoke County-Botetourt County line around 1:00. Officials say when he was asked to pull over, he fled the scene - causing deputies to go into pursuit after him. Police say the chase reached speeds up to 74 miles-an-hour and took them little over five miles into Roanoke City. The driver apparently attempted to cause the pursuing officer to wreck by slamming on his breaks and then swerving into the path of the deputy's vehicle. It ended when the man crashed into another car and a steel signpost at Orange Avenue and Williamson Road. The driver died instantly.

((Movie Review "Unfaithful" 20th Century Fox
"Unfaithful" is a cautionary tale for anyone considering adultry. In other words, don't. Richard Gere and Diane Lane are a couple, Edward and Constance, who have been married for eleven years. They have a son, Charlie, soon to be nine. There is no evidence that there is anything wrong with the marriage, they seem perfectly happy; but when Constance bumps into a sexy French book dealer on a windy day in Manhattan, it isn't long until she is involved in a lust-filled affair with him. Her deception begins to take a toll and Edward soon senses something is up. He hires a detective to follow Connie, and discovers her secret. This sets in motion events that will end, as another character predicts, in tragedy. To say any more about the plot would be to say too much. "Unfaithful" is based on a French film and it keeps a lot of that foreign film quality, both the good elements and the not so good. There are intense scenes, the actors are by turns quietly desperate, and overwrought, one scene is unintentionally comic, there is a slowness to the pacing; and the ending avoids any attempt at a Hollywood style neatly wrapped package. Overall, the sensation is one of strangeness. "Unfaithful" is rated R for steamy sex scenes and some violence. Grade C+.
