The Virginia Army National Guard has helped with airport security since October, a result of the September 11th attacks.
President Bush requested the troops be posted in commercial service airports to provide increased security for the traveling public.
That job will now be taken over by the Transportation Security Agency.

One week later, the State Corporation Commission issued a permit for the plant.

Authorities say one tractor trailer rearended another on northbound I-81 near the 5-81 interchange at around 4 this afternoon.
Traffic has been backed up for miles as a result of the incident.
Nobody was injured in the accident, state police say traffic charges are pending.

Police say the driver of the green Toyota was heading towards Salem when she crossed the center line hitting a gold Chevrolet.

Police have charged Kira Mason with failure to maintain control of vehicle.
She is recovering from a fractured leg.

A task force in Virginia Beach wants to make the city's beaches safer.

Last summer, four people drowned and a boy was killed in a shark attack.

In response, the Safe Beach task force has come up with a plan it hopes will keep tourists safe.
The plan calls for placing information in hotel rooms and on signs at the beaches warning of dangerous rip currents and discouraging bathers from swimming at dusk and dawn.
The city will also expand use of the red flags that warn of rough surf ... use all-terrain vehicles to patrol the beach at
non-peak hours ... and provide a new telescoping tower to give lifeguards a better view of the beach.

Roanoke County is opening its door to the public.
Next weekend, the county will host an open house at many of its fire and rescue stations.

They want to get a better idea of what Mount Pleasant looked like before it burned down when Madison was nine years old.

The Lady Flames now await an opponent in the NCAA tournament which will be announced sometime this evening.

The Arena Football2 league has taken over operation of the Roanoke Steam. The shake up in the front office has not affected the team. Roanoke ran its' winning streak to four games last night with a 27-to-23 win over the Norfolk Nighthawks at the Roanoke Civic Center.
The Steam may be on a winning streak, but so far area fans have yet to fully embrace their arena football team.
