[SUPER=03-Rocky Mount;]
Jacqueline Powers coached the the Franklin County High School cheerleaders from 1991 to 2000.
A financial audit in 1999 determined some of the squad's money was missing.
Prosecutors allege that Powers took 22-hundred dollars between May and September of '99.
The money was intended to pay for cheerleaders' uniforms.
Prosecutors say bad bookkeeping made it hard to determine how much came in and where it went.
Powers and her attorney say any of the 17 people who handled the money COULD have taken it.
She'll present her defense next week.

The Attorney General was before the Court yesterday to appeal the state's redistricting case.
Judge Richard Pattisall threw out the redistricting plan earlier this year, agreeing with Democrats that it packed too many black voters in too few districts.
Deputy Attorney General Frank Ferguson argued that the Salem circuit court judge overstepped his authority when he ruled the plan was unconstitutional and ordered new elections to take place.

Warner also told the board in Richmond that high standards alone will not improve student achievement.
