People who'd never met Chandra Levy today joined her friends and family at a public memorial service in her family's home town of Modesto, California. About 12-hundred mourners attended the ceremony. The former federal intern had been missing for more than a year before her body was found in Washington DC last week.

The Virginia Supreme Court ruled the law against cross burning is a violation of free speech.
Now the U-S Supreme Court will hear a case that started last year in Carroll County.
Barry Black was convicted by the state Supreme Court because he set fire to a cross at a Ku Klux Klan rally.
The court said it expects to rule on the issue sometime next year.
The ruling could determined how far states may go in prohibiting practices associated with racial hatred or intimidation.

The Supreme Court today issued a stay of a controversial ruling that Virginia's new voting districts are unconstitutional.
Democrats had challenged the Republican-drawn redistricting plan and Salem Judge Richard Pattisall threw it out and ordered new elections.
Last week Republicans argued that Pattisall mishandled the case and overstepped his authority.
Republican Attorney General Jerry Kilgore asked the state Supreme Court for an appeal.
The Court chimed in today and agreed to a stay while it reviewed the case.
