A 24-year old surfer has been seriously injured-
The attacked happened off the coast of Stinson Beach in marin County....
The victim is identified as Lee Fontan who was surfing near a group of other surfers when he was attacked.
Other Surfers saw Fontan pulled from his board by the shark- They also reported seeing a 12 to 15 inche dorsal fin during the attack.
Fontan apparently fought off the attack- and returned to his board where other surers helped him to shore.

Jeffrey Allen Thomas will go on trial a second time at the end of July in Winchester.

The 32-year-old was granted a new trial by the Virginia Supreme Court. Earlier this year, the court unanimously overturned his capital murder conviction and death sentence. Thomas was convicted in a Pulaski Circuit Court last March of killing 16-year-old Tara Munsey. But the state court said a change of venue should have been granted because of excessive publicity. Thomas will remain jailed at the Sussex Correctional Center in Waverly until his second trial.

In the first half, Salem's Emily Peterson has a bad angle and still manages to float this one just over the outstretched arm of Byrd goal keeper Amanda PEE-A-CHAK. The ball lands in the corner of the goal for a 1-to-nothing lead. Salem nearly scored again in the first half. Whitney Thompson hits one off the post. William Byrd's Jessica Gee makes a heads up play to save the goal. Salem leads 1-nothing at the half.

In the second half, Salem scores the final goal of the night. Thompson gets the Byrd goal keeper leaning the wrong way. The Spartans beat William Byrd 2-to-nothing. They'll play a state quarterfinal game at home on Tuesday night. Byrd must travel to either Martinsville or Virginia High.
