Authorities are looking for the man now charged in the Hurt Park triple homicide.
They have also made an arrest in the Towers Mall shooting.

Police issued an arrest warrant for 31-year-old Askia Shabazz, also known as Jermaine Darnell Poindexter.

Shabazz faces three counts of murder and one count of arson in connection with the May 5th fire at the Hurt Park Housing Development.
25-year-old Alice Diane Jackson and her two young sons died in that blaze.
Shabazz is formerly of Northwest Roanoke but is believed to have fled Virginia.
He now faces the possibility of three life terms.
Police have been looking for him since early May.

Kip Lamont Walker was arrested yesterday in Lexington for the Towers Mall murder.
20-year-old Ronald Steven Clark of Blue Ridge was shot on April 19th in the mall parking lot.
Walker is being held without bond in the Roanoke City jail.

A Roanoke woman came forward to face charges in the murder of her elderly mother.
82-year-old Edna Dooley was found dead last month in her home in Northeast Roanoke.
Police say she died from blunt force trauma.
Her 47-year-old daughter, Cindy Countess, has been charged in her death.
Countess was living with her mother at the time.

Mandatory water conservation could go into effect in the next few weeks for Roanoke City...

The events of September 11-th have paved the way for new safety measures- and last night the start of an annual event in Virginia took on a new meaning. State police kicking off Operation Roadcheck say they'll be scrutinizing tractor trailers more closely this year than ever.

It's all part of a nationwide program where state police and other agencies team up to inspect as many commercial vehicles as possible. Last night, troopers began random inspections at the Troutville scales on Interstate 81. The troopers are checking the driver's credentials... The truck flipped at least once and landed upside down, pinning the driver in the cab.
He was conscious during the entire 90-plus minutes rescue crews spent freeing him from the vehicle. He was flown to the Lynchburg General Hospital. There's no word on his condition.

A Virginia Prison warden is suing two Connecticut newspapers over articles he read about himself on the Internet.

Stanley Young, the warden of Wallens Ridge State Prison, says he was portrayed as a racist in articles about alleged mistreatment of Connecticut inmates who were sent to Virginia.
A three-judge panel is considering whether the case has a place in Virginia or Connecticut.
Young's lawyer told the appeals court that the lawsuit belongs in Virginia because it's where Young's reputation was damaged.
A ruling is expected in several weeks.

A Smyth County teenager has been missing since the weekend- and police suspect she may be with someone she met over the Internet.

Police looking into her disappearance fear she may have met someone over the Internet because her computer was disassembled and the contents were erased. Merola says sharing has the ability to save money but that the restructuring plan is NOT a result of this year's budget cuts. He says the plan has been in the works since last fall... that it's to increase efficiency and help Tech reach its goal of becoming a Top 30 research institution. But the Board of Visitors did address the budget yesterday... it approved the numbers... which include about 24-million dollars in required cuts.
