Earlier this year, the State Supreme Court granted Thomas a new trial because of the excessive publicity surrounding his case.

That decision overturned his conviction and death sentence from last March. But his attorneys say after being on death row for 9-months, Thomas wanted to choose to live even if it meant behind bars. By pleading no contest to three charges, including capital murder, the judge sentenced Thomas to life in prison without the possibility of parole plus 13-years.

A Bedford County jury today heard Roy Sluder's version of what happened the night his wife was shot to death in June of 1995.

32 year old Loria Sluder's death was originally ruled a suicide, but authorities charged her estranged husband with murder after re-opening the case 6 years later. Sluder denied he was angry that Loria was moving out and had been dating other men, and that they still enjoyed a friendly relationship.

The Chinook helicopter went in to recover what's left of a rescue helicopter that crashed last week in Oregon.
Today the Blackhawk's fuselage was lifted off of the mountain.
The chopper crashed into Mount Hood while trying to rescue climbers that fell into the mountain's Crevasse.
Three climbers died and four others were criticallhy injured.
Only one of the helicopter's crew members was seriously hurt.
