U-S Airways became the second airline to file for emergency federal loans today, asking for one billion dollars to avoid bankruptcy.
The loan program was approved last year following September 11th.
U-S Airways must submit a detailed restructuring plan to the Air Transportation Stabilization Board.
The airline says part of that will include a plan to reduce costs by one-point-two million dollars.
U-S Airways lost two (b) billion dollars last year, and has said it could run out of money by October without the federally backed loans.
