Wilkins is under fire for settling a sexual harassment suit with a 26-year-old Amherst woman.
House Republicans met Monday night to discuss the fate of the Speaker.
Delegates left the meeting unsatisfied with Wilkins' response to the allegations.
They agreed to postpone a final decision on Wilkins' political future until next week.
Fellow Republican Jerry Kilgore, whose brother Terry attended the caucus meeting, said Wilkins should resign immediately.

Health officials say an employee at the Taco Bell on Freeway Drive in Reidsville has been diagnosed with the illness.
He may have passed the contagious disease to customers, but no other cases have been reported.
North Carolina health officials say anyone who bought food or an iced drink at the fast food restaurant between May 28 and May 30 should get a precautionary vaccine against the virus.

Diners at the restaurant prior to May 28th may also have been exposed, but shots are not available for those people because the vaccine is good only within 14 days of exposure.
Food served after May 30th was safe because the employee hasn't worked at the restaurant since then.
