Virginia's likely to end the fiscal year with a revenue shortfall of at least 150 million dollars.
That's the bottom line in a report delivered to the Senate Finance Committee today by state Secretary of Finance John Bennett.
Bennett said the state will still end the fiscal year in the black because of a built-in 133 million-dollar cushion and state agency spending reductions.
But he said the shortfall will have a ripple effect on next year's budget.
He blames the decline in revenues largely on sagging income tax collections.
State budget director Ric Brown also told the committee that the car tax cut is costing more than legislators had expected.
