But Philpott Lake is also a place where you'll find two murder mysteries.

She's the 38 year old Martinsville woman who disappeared without a trace nearly thirteen years ago.
Divers originally went searching for this missing Nelson County man.
But they were surprised to find Smith's body in a barrel near Union Bridge.
One year later, Smith's case is at a standstill.

Roanoke County Police are investigating an armed robbery tonight.

Shortly after Seven PM, a man walked into the Super 8 Motel on Thirlane Road, showed a gun, and robbed the clerk of an undetermined amount of cash.
No shots were fired and no one was injured.
Police are looking for an African American male in his late teens or early twenties. Police believe he is about five feet seven inches tall and weighs between 175 and 185 pounds.

Crews are trying to contain a forest fire that has burned more than 500 acres of wilderness land in Rockbridge County.

The fire has been burning since June 5th in the James River Face Wilderness. Two homes are threatened, but crews have cleared a fire line to stop the blaze. The fire was started by lightning in the Devil's Marbleyard area of the wilderness. A forest service spokesman says the fire could burn more than a thousand acres before it's under control.

The very next batter Eric Crozier sends a shot to deep center field. It's off the wall in the deepest part of the park and Smith comes across the dish for a 3 run cushion.

To football where former University of Virginia football star Anthony Poindexter has retired from the NFL and will serve as a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater this coming football season.

Poindexter played two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens as a defensive back, but got most of his playing time on special teams. Poindexter was released by the Ravens, picked up by Cleveland and then cut by the Browns before last season.
Virginia head coach Al Groh pursued Dex for over a month and the former Jefferson Forest star gave Groh the answer he was looking for last weekend.

Just down the road from the automaking capital, Dale Jarrett went out and set the early pace in the UPS machine. Jarrett's best lap clocked in at just over 189 miles per hour. Nineteen drivers made their runs before rain showers interrupted time trials.
But after a rain delay of about an hour and a half, no one could catch Jarrett..not even Dale Junior who settled for third. .
