Still many Republicans feel their party is stronger than ever.

A damaged bridge in the New River Valley is forcing some major traffic changes for drivers.

V-DOT is closing the westbound Route 114 bridge over the New River in Montgomery County. The bridge is located near the Radford Arsenal between Christiansburg and Radford. Officials say its overhead truss was damaged by a truck earlier this month. While the bridge is closed for repairs...east and westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on the eastbound side. V-DOT isn't saying when the bridge will be re-open.

An Elliston woman accused of killing her infant son is out of jail on bond.

Officials say 28-year-old Regina Harris posted a 50-thousand dollar bond for her release. The judge ordered her to undergo drug- abuse counseling, to remain in Montgomery County, and answer random check- up calls from authorities. Harris is charged with second- degree murder in the death of her 6-*day*-old son Toby Harris.

A dancer at the Black Angus was one of those arrested... not for indecent exposure but for allegedly distributing marijuana, Lortab and Xanax. Christina Bryant will be arraigned next week, along with Kimberle Miller, the club owner's girlfriend. Miller faces simple possession charges, based on what police discovered at the home the couple rents in the Windsor Lake area of the city. Drug Prosecutor Neil Horn says warrants are pending against three more people, but no additional arrests have been made. Club Owner Billy Hill is NOT among them, Horn says.

A young women's drive to California was cut short today.

A former U-S Congressman died last night while attending a church conference at Roanoke College. Stanley Lloyd Greigg (GREG) was on his way to a worship service when he collapsed in the parking lot outside Bowman (BOH- man) Hall. Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
A Roanoke College news release called Greigg a "churchman of the highest caliber." The 71-year old Lutheran church leader was a native of Iowa and a former Deputy Chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

One football note tonight, former University of Virginia football star Anthony Poindexter has retired from the NFL and will serve as UVa's graduate assistant coach for this coming football season.

Poindexter played two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens as a defensive back, but got most of his playing time on special teams. Poindexter was released by the Ravens, picked up by Cleveland and then cut by the Browns before last season.

Virginia head coach Al Groh pursued Dex for over a month and the former Jefferson Forest star had to give Groh an answer by last weekend.

The military branch turns 227 today. This afternoon, an army recruiting office in Christiansburg recognized the milestone.
