Wilkins submitted his resignation last week in the wake of a sexual harassment controversy.
As chairman of the Committee on Privileges and Elections, Delegate Lacey Putney automatically became Acting Speaker.
GOP leaders said that Putney will likely remain Speaker until the General Assembly convenes in January.

Voluntary water conservation gave way to mandatory restrictions today in Roanoke as the level of the city's main reservoir fell to 26 feet below the spillway.

The city is purchasing water from Roanoke County and Salem, and banning all non-essential uses of water.

The Roanoke Elks Lodge has shut down slides that use city water... but like other public and community pools, it will be allowed to use city water to maintain proper levels.
That's not the case with residential pools and hot tubs. The new restrictions prohibit filling, re-filling or topping off those.

Officials in Pennsylvania have a water mystery on their hands.

Gallons and gallons of water have sprung up from an unknown source and flooded a Pittsburgh suburb.
The water started flooding about 15 to 20 homes in Wilkins Township last week.
At first residents said they thought an underground water main had ruptured, but now they say they're not so sure.

Town officials say the water may be coming from an abandoned mine near the neighborhood, or a storm water drainage system that is no longer being used.

Lightning started the fire near the Devil's Marbleyard two weeks ago.
It closed down a 10-mile section of the Appalachian Trail.

A Buchanan man died in a car accident this evening.
State Police say it happened just before eight o-clock on Route 6-22 near Arcadia.
21 year old Joseph Lee Reed went around a curve too fast and lost control of his car.
It flipped several times and Reed was thrown out.
He was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.

But keep an eye out of Busch Series driver Jason Keller who has four wins this season.

Former Heisman trophy winner Ty Detmer served as the featured guest at the Roanoke Valley Sports Club meeting last night.

The sports club teamed up with the fifth annual Brigham Young University and Virginia Blue Ridge Chapter scholarship golf outing to bring Detmer to Hidden Valley Country Club. The golf tournament is later today at Hunting Hills and it raises money for deserving high school seniors in Southwest Virginia.
Detmer is preparing for his 12th NFL season with his third team, the Detroit Lions where he will help bring along Lions first round draft pick, quarterback Joey Harrington out of Oregon.

Last night in the Welcome Jumper Stake - the prelim to the prestigious Grand Prix - Minikus won the top prize with a brilliant run on a horse named "Jeez-Louise." For his efforts last night, Minikus took home $12 hundred bucks. Some lucky fans kids in the audience took home a memory and a memento. Minikus - 2001's national equestrian of the year gives his ribbons away to children in the crowd.

(SOUL KEY HEN) left footed this game tying shot into the net in the 88th minute. It was his first goal of the Cup comp

etition. Then in the overtime Ahn Jung hwan outjumped Italian captain Paolo Maldini to head in the game winner. The upset was reminiscent of 1966 when Italy lost to North Korea in what is still considered to be one of the biggest upsets in Cup history.
