A high speed chase near Farmville tonight ended in a crash that sent several people to the hospital.
State police say around 7, a Prince Edward County deputy was going to serve a warrant when he observed the suspect drive away from his home.
The deputy gave chase and was joined by two state troopers. The pursuit ended near the Appomattox- Prince Edward County line when all four vehicles reportedly collided.
The injured were taken to the hospital in Farmville... authorities say none of the injuries was life-threatening.

The mother of a fourth grader is taking on Botetourt County school administrators and sheriff's deputies over an incident at Colonial Elementary last Fall. Ten- year old Meghan Dickson was summoned to the principal's office, based on reports from other students that Meghan had taken a gun to school. According to the complaint filed today in U-S District Court, the child was detained, interrogated and her bookbag was searched. Meghan says she asked school officials to call her mother, but they refused. A week later the school sent a letter home to parents indicating: "no weapon was ever found."

The Henry County Sheriff's Office says 41-year old Larry Junior Carter was involved in a dispute with Antonio Dewayne Turner- it happened at the Axton Mobile Home Park shortly before midnight when the two exchanged gunfire.

Carter allegedly shot the 21-year old Martinsville man in the stomach with a shotgun. Turner later died at the hospital. Police say he used a handgun to shoot Carter in the foot. A Roanoke man says he was forced to be a taxi driver this past weekend... at gunpoint.
Michael Gene Turman told police that a man and a woman got into his car on Williamson Road Friday night.
The man pulled out a gun and told Turman to start driving.
Turman says he took them wherever they wanted to go, until they finally let him go Sunday morning.
The couple took off in his car, but police recovered it a short time later.

The Salem Avalanche returned home last night for the first time since June 13th and for the first time in this second half of the season.

Last night the opponent was Myrtle Beach - the first half winners in the southern division. And this evening the visitors were in a giving mood. In the first inning - Matt McClendon would make it through nine batters - but not even an entire inning. Jorge Piedra hits one to short, Melvin Rosario jumps the ball and heads to third and eventually home as the throw to first is off line. Salem leads one to nothing. McClendon then couldn't hit the strike zone, but had no trouble hitting the Salem batters. Bryan Peck is the second batter to get pegged in the first inning. The bases were full and Ambioriox Reyes scores. It's 2-to-nothing. Jeff Winchester would later lift a sacrifice fly to left center field.

On the golf front - two of the biggest names in the upcoming Senior's U.S. Open have withdrawn from the event. 62 year old Jack Nicklaus is pulling out of the event due to a back bad.

And Hot Springs native J.C. Snead also has withdrawn from the event. Just Sunday J.C. became only the 11th player over the age of 60 to win a Senior Tour event when he captured the Greater Baltimore Classic. Snead, who is just four months shy of his 61st birthday says he is simply exhausted. Before Sunday, Jesse Carlyle Snead's last senior tour win was in 1995.

Now in its fifth year, the NFL Twins Camp has added a new twist, one that has everyone all smiles. Every camper this week will receive a photo with the Barbers, developed and ready to be signed by the end of the camp day.

Natalie White of Natalie Artistic Portraits has donated her time and effort to the event this week, taking doubles of each youngster. It all adds up to about 300 portraits on 8 rolls of film. And that's just Day One.

Wimbledon opened play today and for a change many of the top seeds will get to spend more than one night in England. Last year - the seeded players were battered early, but today all of the top seeds won.

Venus Williams won't play until tomorrow, but today she watched younger sister Serena win her opening match without hardly breaking sweat - Serena rolls into the second round with a 6-1 and 6-1 victory. Jennifer Capriati also recorded a straight set win in her opening match of the tournament. Capriati wins 6-1 and 6-4 over Janette Husarova. And 21st seeded Tatiana Panova made a whole lot of folks mad today when he eliminated Anna Kournikova from the tournament. Kournikova was beaten in three sets 6-1, 4-6 and 6-4.

On the men's side Andre Agassi was given the honor of opening the tournament at centre court after defending champ Goran Ivanisevic withdrew two months ago due to shoulder problems. Agassi hammered fellow American Harel Levy 6-love, 6-4 and 6-4. Pete Sampras, the seven-time Wimbledon champion who had been questionable with a rib strain, then stepped on to centre court and served 27 aces to beat Britain's Martin Lee 6-3, 7-6 and 6-3. Sampras' last tourney win was Wimbledon 2002. (------------)
