((President Bush says though he has no signs of illness--he's taking his doctor's advice and undergoing a routine colon test.
The doctors recommended I have another one because the last time they found some benign polyps.
That was about five or six years ago.
The president will undergo what is called a Colonoscopy. A small tubelike device with a camera at the end will be inserted through the entire
length of the President's colon in search of signs of cancer. It is a
routine procedure recommended for people over age 45...and it should take about an hour.
The president will be sedated--so while he's under he will transfer his power to Vice President Dick Cheney.

The procedure will be conducted at the presidential retreat--Camp David. Mr. Bush says he hopes to exercising by tomorrow afternoon.

that will help Amtrak get the 200 million dollars it needs to close a budget shortfall.
And that averts a shutdown forecast for next week.

A special grand jury has indicted the former secretary of the Lynchburg electoral board on thirteen counts of embezzling public funds.
Prosecutors say Al Grant mis-used his city-issued credit card to pay for trips and meals that had no legitimate connection to his electoral board duties.

A Forest woman plans to plead guilty to embezzling thousands of dollars from a Bedford County bank.
23-year old Kristy Lynne Mayhew is charged with embezzling more than 33-thousand dollars from the B-B-and-T bank in the spring of 2001.
A hearing is scheduled for August 7th where she has signed an agreement to plead guilty.
She faces 30 years in prison and a fine up to a million dollars.

Police say a juvenile has been charged with aggravated INvoluntary manslaughter, and driving after curfew, in the death of 15-year-old Casey Bane.
Bane was killed in a crash on Bent Mountain Road last month. The car she was riding in went airborne after failing to get around a sharp curve.
Police refused to release the driver's name, age or gender.

A convenience store clerk is recovering after he was shot during a robbery in Lynchburg last night.
Just after midnight, police say the suspect entered the 7-Eleven store on Wadsworth Street, shot one of the two clerks on duty and made off with a small amount of cash.
The gunman is being described as a black man, between 5-8 and 5 feet 10 inches tall, of medium build, wearing a black skull cap and a dark bandana over his face.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Lynchburg police.

The plane was trying to make an emergency landing- in suburban St. Petersburg- after the pilot reported problems.
The plane bounced several times- sideswiping two vehicles before coming to rest on top of a car.
The pilot is an off duty Clearwater police corporal. Both he and the driver of the third car were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Sculptors, from all over the world, came together to portray the theme, "Mystery of Atlantis."
The castle consists ONLY of sand and water, but according to one Dutch sculptor the secret is "special sand."
Because of the theme water is an important part of the exhibit.
The highest point on the castle is 46 feet tall and the entire exhibit extends over 250 feet.
The display will be open to the public until August fourth.

Hall shot a six under par round of 65 today on the 7005 yard par 71 course.

He missed the cut.
Roanoke Country Club's Jeff Lynch also will miss the cut - but can brag that he beat Palmer by 6- strokes after shooting 81 Thursday and 80 yesterday.
A number of big names missed the cut including Ben Crenshaw, Gary Player, Gary McCord and defending champ Bruce Fleisher.
