Rescue workers are trying to find and identify bodies in an area just north of Lake Constance.

A Tupolev 154 passenger plane and a Boeing 757 D-H-L package- delivery flight crashed into each other. Both people aboard the D-H-L flight- -the pilots- -are believed to have been killed. The planes are said to have been at an altitude of approximately 36-thousand feet when they collided. Burning wreckage has been scattered for 20 miles around the crash site near Germany's border with Switzerland and Austria.

U-S war planes bombed a village in southern Afghanistan today. The American military command says U-S forces were under fire, though the Kandahar government says the gunfire hit a house where a wedding celebration was under way.

American Special Forces had been watching the area for days and were convinced it was a Taliban or al Qaida stronghold. With an A-C-130 gunship orbiting overhead, the attack began in the pre dawn darkness this morning. The A-C-130 spotted ground fire, believed it was being targeted by anti-aircraft guns and returned fire with its own guns.

Roanoke City Council is taking steps that may lead to a regional water authority.
Today, members also gave the go- ahead for a temporary filtration system that could supply an additional three million gallons of water a day.

38 year old Richard (evan-itz) Evonitz committed suicide Thursday after leading police on a high speed chase in Florida. Authorities were attempting to arrest Evonitz for the rape and murder of a South Carolina girl when he killed himself.
While working that case-- police say they discovered evidence possibly linking Evonitz to the deaths of sisters Kristin and Kati Lisk and 16- year old Sofia Silva. Police say they'll now wait for D-N-A tests to determine whether he killed the Spotsylvania County girls.

A man facing a six-million dollar wrongful death suit for the death of his wife is being hit with another lawsuit.
Mark Faville is being sued by Minnesota Life Insurance Company.

Court documents show the company paid more than 200-thousand dollars to Faville for the accidental death of his wife Mickey Faville in March of 2000. Now the company wants its money back, because the case is being investigated as a homicide.
Earlier this year, the Faville children sued their father, saying he drugged, beat and then strangled his wife after she decided to leave him.

The government want to move the trial of former National D-Day Memorial Foundation President Richard Burrow to Lynchburg.

Burrow was indicted on fraud charges in federal court in Roanoke. The case was assigned to Judge James Turk.
Now, the U-S Attorney wants the case moved to federal court in Lynchburg.
The government says it's not "judge shopping" -- it just wants the case tried a few miles closer to the D-Day Memorial.
Burrow's attorney says he hopes to keep the September trial date set in Roanoke.
Burrow is accused of lying to banks and donors to secure funds for the D-Day Memorial.

A Roanoke man who told police he had been abducted at gunpoint has been charged with making a false report.
Michael Gene Turman said a man and a woman got into his car and ordered him to drive them around the city for an entire weekend last month.
Police now say Turman made up the story to cover his absence from home for the weekend and that he knew the man and woman who had been in his car.

Former Roanoke Express star Tim Christian has been reunited with his old coach. Christian is the new assistant hockey coach under the first Express coach Frank Anzalone at Lake Superior State in Michigan.

Christian played four and a half season with the Express and then a half season with the Toledo Storm. Christian is still the Express's all time leader in goals scored with 100. (( The new south county high school opens in less than 60 days. The building itself is actually still ahead of schedule. The construction of the first football team is still a work in progress. Brad Oliver, who attended the Barbers camp, played a back-up at Cave Spring last season - this year he will be the quarterback at Hidden Valley and the only player on the roster who has ever played on a Friday night. ((BRAD OLIVER:)) While Oliver and his teammates will have their own practice field they will share Bogle Field with the Knights for their seasonal games. They also will share the task of keeping a divided community form actually splitting in half. ((STEVE MAGENBAUER:)) ((BEN FOUTZ:)) Had the school been built a decade ago - the Barbers would have ended up at Hidden Valley. They understand both sides. A tough day at Wimbledon for Jennifer Capriati. First, her match was delayed due to rain and then it was suspended because of darkness. It resumes tomorrow tied 6-1 and 3-6.

Venus Williams won her 18th straight singles match at Wimbledon, routing Lisa Raymond in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals.
The two time defending champion and number one seed overpowered Raymond 6-1, 6-2 and needed just 47 minutes to win the match. Her sister Serena and Monica Seles also advanced.
On the men's side, England's Tim Henman defeated Michel Kratochvil (krot-ick-vil) in five sets 7-6, 6-7, 4-6, 6-3 and 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals. Henman is trying to become the first British player in 66 years to win the men's title.

In its first week as a new reef open to the public, a sunken Navy ship is a big attraction.

Florida Keys officials say the ship attracted more than one thousand divers in its first week.
Besides people, marine life is flocking to the new reef, situated about six miles off Key Largo. Coralline algae is already encrusting the ship, forming the foundation for development of sponges, corals and other invertebrates.
Schools of fish have taken up residence.
The reef opened June 24th, five weeks after a mishap left it capsized with its upside-down bow protruding from the sea.
A salvage crew finally put the ship fully on the bottom. (------------)
