The four were fishing below the Roanoke River Bridge on the Blue Ridge Parkway when they found the body of a white male.
Police arrived at the scene around nine thirty last night.
They say the man was lying on his back at the edge of the water and appeared to have been there less than a day.
Early this morning, police were working to verify the man's identity and how he died.
They say it's too soon to say if he committed suicide by jumping from the bridge or if foul play was involved.

Authorities say they have new information that links Richard Evonitz to the murder of three teenage girls in Spotsylvania County more than five years ago.
South Carolina investigators say Evonitz confessed to his sister that he had killed someone, and committed many other crimes.

[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=03-Sarasota, FL/Thursday]
This was just hours before he took his own life in Florida last week.
Evonitz, though, did NOT identify his victim or say when he supposedly killed that person.
Investigators say he matches the profile of a serial killer, given what they know so far.
A task force is looking closely at Evonitz's life to see if any more clues connect him to the murders of sisters Kristin and Kati Lisk and Sophia Silva.
A search of his apartment and car turned up a newspaper article about the May, 1997 killings of Lisk sisters, as well as handwritten directions to a road near their home.
D-N-A tests are also being done on evidence from the murder scenes to determine if there is a connection to Evonitz.
