A Botetourt County woman is heading to prison after admitting she she sold drugs to a teenager who overdosed and died...

24- year- old Melanie Benzenhafer (ben-zen-HAFE-er) pled guilty to second degree murder yesterday in Botetourt County Circuit Court. She admitted selling the prescription pain-killer Lortab to Brian Osborne, her 17 year old neighbor, in January. Osborne was found dead of an overdose the next day. Benzenhafer was sentenced to two years .. one in prison, another in a boot camp and work-release program. Prosecutors say the conviction sends a message that people who sell drugs to juveniles who overdose will be prosecuted for murder.

Authorities say that a 54- year- old Roanoke man who's body was discovered by fishermen Tuesday night apparently committed suicide...

The medical examiner's office reports the victim suffered multiple traumatic injuries consistent with a high fall. The body was discovered by fishermen around ten Tuesday night beneath the Blue Ridge Parkway bridge over the Roanoke River. County police concluded all facts were consistent with suicide.

Fire severely damaged a chuch in Hillsville.
Officials say the steeple of the First Baptist Church of Hillsville was struck by lightning around Four yesterday afternoon.
Fire quickly spread to the sanctuary, and destroyed the roof and steeple.
Fire crews used a ladder truck to save classrooms, and the newer part of the church.
Nobody was injured, and there is no dollar amount of the damage.

Police had to use pepper spray to break up a near- riot in a CHURCH Tuesday night. Now a Lynchburg minister and his wife are facing charges.

Authorities were called to the White Rock Baptist Church on Florida Avenue around 7 to break up a fight among several members of its congregation.
The church-goers apparently were voting on whether to remove their pastor, Reverend Antoine Edwards, the Third.
Police say Edwards punched two people during the melee.
His wife is also accused of assaulting a police officer.
The Edwards' could not be reached for comment.

Speed is being blamed for a fatal accident in the New River Valley yesterday...

Officials say a woman was driving this car at speeds up to 70-miles an hour on Roanoke Street, when she lost control.

Her Thunderbird struck a wrecker in the parking lot of Robert's Towing. The 55-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene; her identity is being withheld until her family is notified. The owner of Robert's Towing says his wrecker will be out of service for weeks. No one else was injured.

A new telephone scam is hitting Virginia.
Attorney General Jerry Kilgore is warning consumers of the scam that uses his office's name.
Kilgore says a Christiansburg man got a call from someone who said he was working for the attorney general's office and looking into credit card theft.
The caller told the Christiansburg man that his card had been fraudulently billed 479-dollars and he would have it removed.
First, however, the caller sought the victim's checking account number to help cover the fraud until the office could take care of the fraudulent billing.
The Christiansburg man declined and checked with the attorney general's office.
