Officers say multiple shots were fired just outside the Waffle House restaurant, near Peters Creek Road and 5-81.
Detectives say two people exchanged words inside the restaurant before the shooting happened around five o'clock.
18 year old Vernon James Jones Junior suffered a superficial wound.
He was treated and released from Community Hospital.
Police say they have no suspects but believe anywhere from five to ten people were involved.

A recent study by the Consumer Product Safety Commission reports park rides sent more than ten thousand people to the emergency room in 1999.

Even so, safety is taken very seriously here at the Salem Fair.
An independent safety consultant conducts a four day inspection before the fair opens. ((QUICK NAT SOUND OF HAMMERING))
Each ride then undergoes a two hour daily inspection.

We watched as workers checked safety harnesses, pins, and did routine maintenance. ((QUICK NAT SOUND OF RIDE RUNNING))
Each ride also runs empty every morning.
And if something even small goes wrong, the ride is shut down immediately.
That happened to this ride even though the manufacture says it is still safe to operate.

The event is in its 15th year and is the second largest in the state.
A record crowd of more than forty thousand people attended the fair July fourth.
However, organizers do report crowds have been down when the temperature goes up.

Congressman Jim Moran is disputing reports that he received preferential treatment from a credit lender, days before becoming a leading supporter of bankruptcy reform legislation that the company was pushing. The Washington Post says the Democrat from Alexandria closed on a home refinancing package worth 447-thousand dollars with M-B-N-A Corporation in 1998 -- then signed on as the lead Democratic co-sponsor of the wide-ranging bankruptcy reform bill four days later. Moran says the timing of the loan was "coincidental'' ... and the credit lender never lobbied him for the legislation.

Some army veterans are joining forces to raise money to help the former president of the National D-Day Memorial Foundation.

Richard Burrow was charged last month with four counts of fundraising fraud. But vets from the 29th Division Association are standing behind him - trying to help Burrow pay his legal bills. None of the charges against Burrow indicate that he used money raised for the memorial for personal gain... but that he lied about donations to secure money and to boost his reputation as a dynamic fundraiser.

The Southern part of West Virginia is seeing a boom in construction business, as the state replaces homes destroyed by floods.

In the past 12 months, the Housing Development Fund has committed 17 million dollars to the effort. Construction is expected to continue for another five to six years. Officials say the work is providing employment as well as new homes. Much of the work is being done by West Virginia engineers and contractors. Flooding since last July has destroyed or damaged thousands of homes in southern West Virginia-- So far, the state's construction program has provided new houses or apartments for about 80 families.

The fire broke out early this morning on a conveyor belt 22- hundred feet underground. Thirty of those killed were in a trolley heading down at the time. Three other victims were found near it. More than 37- hundred miners have died on the job since Ukraine's independent from the Soviet Union in 1991.

Some 40- million people worldwide are infected -- more than half of them in Africa. And in China, the former Soviet Union and other countries in Asia -- he says the virus is spreading swiftly.

Some tense moments on the streets of Pamplona, Spain today as the first "running of the bulls" got off to a dangerous start.

Thousands of men ran through the cobblestone streets ahead of six bulls and steers. Dew covering the streets caused some of the bulls to slip and fall. Once they were separated from the herd at least two men were gored... and several more were sent to the hospital. The run from a corral to a bull ring took twice as long as usual and TV-commentators called it "unusually dangerous."

The bulls weigh nearly 15- hundred pounds and faced near-certain death during the bullfight that followed.

In a Wimbledon which saw Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi eliminated early, top seed Lleyton Hewitt avoided the upset bug and today capped off the tournament with his second Grand Slam title.

The top seeded Hewitt overwhelmed Argentina's David Nalbandian in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, and 6-2. The match took less than two hours. It would have been even shorter if not for this guy in his birthday suit who held things up just a bit. At the age of 21, Hewitt became the youngest Wimbledon champ since Boris Becker won the title at the age of 18 in 1986. Hewitt is also the first Australian to win the event since Pat Cash got it done in 1987.

To the links where this afternoon, 42 year old Julie Inkster held off Annika Sorenstam to claim her second Women's U.S.Open title.

Sorenstam was bidding for her 3rd Open title, but just couldn't make any putts today. Inkster on the other hand did. She closed with a 4 under 66 to win her 7th career major. Inkster entered today's final round trailing Sorenstam by 2 shots but turned it around for a 2 stroke victory. She became the second oldest winner of a major championship. For her efforts, Inkster earned a cool 535 thousand dollars.

Switzerland's Rubens Bertogliati took today's stage in 4 hours, 49 minutes and 16 seconds. Armstrong finished 30th in the flat 119 mile stage, but is just 3 seconds off the overall lead. Armstrong usually makes his move on the tough mountain stages which are still to come. Monday's 112 mile run goes from Luxembourg to Saarbruecken, Germany.
