A major effort to improve student achievement will target more than 100 schools across the state and 18 in our area.
Governor Warner detailed the PASS program this morning in Richmond.
The program is designed to marshal public and private support for schools that have performed poorly on the Standards of Learning exams.
34 schools will receive extra help. That priority list includes Central Elementary in Amherst County, Jeter-Watson Intermediate in Covington, Woodrow Wilson Elementary in Danville, and the Roanoke Academy for Math and Science in the city of Roanoke.

Investigators are still trying to figure out how the six- alarm fire got started.
No one was inside at the time, but two firefighters suffered from smoke inhalation.
The owner of the 75- thousand- square- foot home was just weeks away from finishing construction.
His attorney says the sprawling, three- story home was covered in hand- carved mahogany and marble.
A local radio station reports the house is valued at nearly 45- million dollars.
It was already listed for sale with Christie's auction house in New York.

It's making it easier for farmers to buy from those who have extra amounts they would like to sell.
