A man from Blairs was killed in an automobile accident last night. Police say William Nathaniel Harris was driving his Chevy pickup on state route 707 in Pittsylvania County, when he lost control of the truck and ran off of the left side of the road. He then apparently overcorrected, sending the truck over the right side, where he hit a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both crew members were killed when the plane went down just northwest of Denver yesterday.
They had been fighting a 12- hundred- acre wildfire that's threatening nearly 300 homes.
The deadly crash has prompted the F-A-A to ground all 38 air tankers now fighting wildfires in the Western U-S.
It was the second air tanker disaster in two months--
Three men were killed in California last month when the wings of a tanker snapped off in mid-air.

Problems with the Department of Motor Vehicles' computer system could make it difficult for some people to renew their driver's licenses next month.
The problem comes from people entered with the same Social Security numbers, or with discrepancies in their names and birth dates compared to the federal Social Security Administration's computers.
The D-M-V does not have the staff to track down every discrepancy in its computers, so it leaves it up to drivers to fix the errors.
The problem is believed to affect about three thousand people.
Over the last two years, the D-M-V has found 200-thousand entries with problems in its computer system.
