Roanoke Police say the victim was found in a bathroom stall at the park by employees with Roanoke's parks and recreation department.
The workers had been mowing the lawn around one o'clock when they heard multiple gunshots and discovered the man's body on the bathroom floor.

Police have not released the victim's identity because he was not carrying identification.
Aquaintances at the scene have given police a name... and they believe the man was in his mid- 20's and moved to Roanoke from Michigan.
No arrests have been made but police do have a potential lead.
Witnesses say that a man wearing blue shorts was seen fleeing the park shortly after shots were fired.

A maintenance worker who stopped on the side of Interstate 77, was struck by a truck and dragged nearly 200 feet to his death.
43-year-old Joseph White McCarthy, the Third, of Woodlawn, was standing beside his pick- up truck in the emergency lane in Carroll County.... when a tractor trailer hit him and dragged him 180 feet before stopping.
McCarthy was pronounced dead at the scene.
A truck driver from Waynesboro is charged with reckless driving.

A police chase ends in a crash after the suspect takes off with his young daughter in the back seat.
Now a Campbell County man faces a whole new set of charges.

Two school systems are thinking about merging in Southside.
Martinsville and Henry County are talking about becoming one.
A joint school board subcommittee has hired Virginia Tech to do a feasibility study.
The consulting team will study everything from personnel rules to bell schedules.
The Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce has committed to raising private funds to cover the nearly 85-thousand dollar price tag.
Once funding is secured, the study will take about a year to complete.

Mead- Westvaco says its ongoing job cuts will total 25-hundred by the end of the year.
The company reports a second-quarter net loss of eight million dollars.

In January, Ohio-based Mead merged with Connecticut-based Westvaco in a three- billion-dollar deal.
Excluding merger-related costs, the company reported a second-quarter profit of 13-million dollars.
The merger's already cost 21-hundred jobs at paper mills in Ohio and Maryland.
400-more jobs will be cut by the end of the year.
Westvaco employs about 26-hundred workers in Virginia at its paper mill in Covington and several box facilities in the Richmond area.

Today Governor Warner will announce a major drop in state revenues.
Revenues for the fiscal year ending last month came in nearly 240- million dollars below forecasts.
In a private meeting with leaders of the House Appropriations and Senate Finance committees, the governor will outline the damage done to the state's tax collections by a year of falling stock markets.
State agencies already have to trim spending by seven percent this year, and eight percent next year.

The Democratic Party of Virginia says Madison Marye submitted his resignation to Governor Warner yesterday.
It takes effect on August First.
Marye has represented the 39th Senate District for 29 years.
He says he wants to have more time with his family and that redistricting played a role.
When the new lines were drawn - the 39th District was moved to Northern Virginia.

Flash floods in May destroyed more than 200 homes and businesses.
State and federal funds will be used to re-build houses for the 90 families who lost homes in the flooding.

Roanoke's reservoir is currently 29-point-2 feet below the spillway.
That's where it stood in September of 1999- -just before the rain came and eventually filled the Cove up again.
But this time there's no sustained rainfall in sight.
City officials will hold a news conference later today- -if the Cove does fall below 29-point-2.
They're perhaps anticipating new water use restrictions that may go into effect IF the level hits THIRTY-feet below the spillway.

Open-burning is now prohibited in the City of Danville.
The Danville Fire Department today banned all open burning without a permit within city limits.
The move is a response to hazardous fire conditions and a lack of rain.
The ban will be lifted once weather conditions improve.
