A man apparently shot himself in the head in Roanoke County today.

County police report the man had recently returned to the area from New York City. He called his estranged wife, and she obtained a warrant against him. The man went to a vacant house on SOUTH Indian Grave Road in the Clearbrook area, where several shots were fired around four-A-M. Police say no one else was injured, but the man was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where the man is listed in critical condition tonight.

A State police spokesman says 65- year- old Kenny Edward Rhodes of Buchanan was behind the wheel of a southbound pickup truck near Troutville, when another vehicle switched lanes and clipped the rear of his truck. Rhodes was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he is now listed in good condition. The other driver, a 22- year- old man from Tennessee, is charged with reckless driving.

Finding a missing child in Bedford County may now be a little easier, thanks to a new program adopted by the Bedford County sheriff's office.

With help from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Bedford County is now using software called "LOCATER".. which stands for Lost Child Alert Technology Resource.

A federal judge is still deciding whether to let Appomattox County farmers start using biosolids on their lands immediately.

Dozens of residents turned out for public hearings on the matter in March.. the county ultimately decided to place certain restrictions on the use of biosolids, which are treated human waste.
A group of eleven farmers is suing the county over those ordinances.. they were seeking a preliminary injunction in federal court today.
Their lawyer says the farmers have the necessary permits and the board acted illegally by further restricting the use of biosolids.
The county says concerns over the health effects and impact on neighboring properties prompted the action.

Beginning next month, troopers will begin testing high-performance 2002 Chevrolet Camaros.
They'll still sport the traditional blue and gray paint scheme, but won't have any noticable antennas.
The department has purchased seven of the cars... one for each division in the state.
Troopers hope the high-performance profile will give them an advantage in apprehending speeders and serve as a deterrent to irresponsible drivers.

But Atlanta's decision to move him to linebacker was a change the team had to make and Kerney has changed with the position. ((:))
