Firefighters were able to contain the flames to one room but the rest of the house had extensive smoke damage.
No one was home at the time.

The fire broke out around six o-clock.
No one was hurt, but the blaze caused quit a commotion because of the nearby First Fridays event.

State Police say another vehicle cut off a southbound tractor trailer.
The rig crossed the median and both northbound lanes before flipping over on an entrance ramp.
Luckily no other cars were hit and no one was hurt.

County supervisors adopted ordinances last winter that severely restrict the use of bio-solids after residents voiced concern about the smell and possible health effects.
But eleven farmers- that already had state permits to use the waste- sued the county, claiming they're losing money and crops.

A federal judge says the government must release the names of people its detaining in connection with 9-11- and it has 15 days to do it.
Civil Libertarians call it a victory-
The Justice Department is attacking the ruling- saying it will impede one of the most important investigations ever- and increase the risk of future terrorist threats to our nation.
The judge did say some exceptions would be allowed on a case-by case basis.
The Justice Department detained almost 12-hundred people after 9-11.
In June, at least 147 people were still being held.

It's not time for panic, it's time for people to take sensible mosquito precautions. Spraying continues to kill some mosquitoes, which spread the virus from infected birds to humans. Most people only develop flu-like symptoms, and some don't get sick at all. But others develop swelling of the brain.

"When people have a virus in their environment that's spread by mosquitoes and infecting their brains, it's always a public health crisis." The Governor of Louisiana has declared a statewide emergency. Twelve people are still in the hospital there. And victims who beat the virus say, it wasn't easy. West Nile has infected people from New Orleans to New Jersey, and many states in between. Experts say it won't be long before it breaks out West.

A Collinsville man is accused of shooting a woman in the head, then fleeing to North Carolina.
Henry County Sheriff's deputies say early this morning they found 39-year old Concepcion Romero on the floor of her apartment.
She was airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem with a head wound. Sheriff Frank Cassell says her last reported condition is "stable but serious."
Investigators later arrested 23-year old Jose Rafael Gomez Romero in Winston-Salem and charged him with malicious wounding.
Deputies say he's not related to the victim.

Two men were injured in an early morning shooting outside a Lynchburg restaurant.

Police say a "fairly large crowd" was gathered outside "Mario's Pizza" on Bedford Avenue around two AM, when two vehicles pulled into the lot. Words were exchanged and officials say shots were fired by at least one but probably two people. The two victims are identified as 18 year old Greg D. (Usher-ee) Usury and 26 year old Jamal R. Davis. There's no word on their conditions and so far, police have made NO arrests.

Royal Air Force pilot Tony Cann is able to eject safely- just moments before it dropped into the sea.
Cann was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but he was apparently able to maintain his cool during the whole event.
Witnesses say he was waving to the air show crowd as his parachute opened.

Rising Northside senior Danny Karbassiyoon is headed for England today for two weeks of training with the Arsenal professional soccer team.

Karbassiyoon was selected to be one of one hundred and fifty players to attend the Adidas Elite Soccer Program at the beginning of July. He was named the winner of the golden boot award, which means he was the best offensive player at the camp. There were close to two hundred college scouts at this camp, and also the chief scout from Arsenal's program.

That's the length of her federal prison sentence for defrauding a bank of nearly one MILLION dollars. However, authorities recently convinced the owner -- while in jail-- to allow the cats to be adopted.
