Career criminal John Colclasure died on Friday.
During the late 1980s, Colclasure kept police busy with a stream of plausible-sounding tips about where he'd hidden Gene McPherson's remains.
At one time, at least three sheriffs' departments, the State Police, and U. S. Navy divers were involved in searching for the body.
Colclasure indicated he'd been hired for the killing, because of Gene McPherson's involvement in a love triangle.

He may have been stringing police along to avoid a death sentence for at least one other murder.
