The General Assembly passed a new law that went into effect July 1st.
It authorizes the D-M-V to collect two dollars to go towards Virginia's 400th anniversary Celebration.

Now if you have a problem with this fee, Griffith suggests you call your local legislator to tell them exactly how you feel.
As for the fee, it will remain in effect until 2008.

Shannon, the first five million dollars collected will go towards Virginia's 400th anniversary. Any money collect after that will goes towards open space preeservation.

Four birds in Southwest Virgina have now tested positive for the West Nile Virus.
Two of those birds were found in Roanoke City, one in Lynchburg and one in Patrick County.

They are only being monitored to track the spread of the disease.

Chrysler said today it's recalling more than 460-thousand 2001 and 2002 PT Cruisers to install a secondary seal to a fuel pump. The move is a response to the discovery of a fuel leak following a government crash test. Chrysler says its unaware of any incidents or complaints involving the fuel leak, but that the recall was initiated to reduce the possibility of a leak in a severe collision. About a quarter of the same cars will also be recalled for a separate safety issue with the under hood fuel supply line that could rub against the air conditioning service port, resulting in a fuel leak.

Avila will now go through a preliminary hearing to see if there's enough evidence against him to go to trial. Prosecutors say they plan to seek the death penalty. Last year Avila was acquitted of molesting two young girls.. but now one of the girls is coming forward with more claims against him.

The Atlanta Falcons were home in the dome last night taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars in a game that had a lot of local flavor.

Michael Vick stepped into the huddle as the Falcons' starter last night and played most of the first half. Across the line he looked straight into the eyes of newly acquired Jaguar middle linebacker Wali Ranier - the former UVa star. Vick led the Falcons to two first half field goals. First with the frozen rope to Shawn Jefferson on the slant-in. Later in the half Vick will hit his fullback underneath for a first down as the Falcons moved the ball pretty effortlessly early on. In that same drive Vick will be, well Vick, as he drops back and then takes off setting up a short field goal with the carry to the ten. The Falcons' top draft pick T.J. Duckett had his moments in the game, looking decent for someone who missed a lot of training camp.

And speaking of looking good, Fred Taylor is back after missing 14 games last season. He did a lot of nice things in the 1st half. Falcons win it 23-to-13.
