Health official say so far this year, 4 birds in Southwest Virgina have tested positive for the West Nile Virus.

That's the same way the virus is transferred to humans. Health Officials say the best way to avoid getting the West Nile virus is to avoid mosquitos.
You should use insect repellent, wear protective clothing and get rid of standing water around your house were mosquitos breed. Even if someone is bitten by an infected mosquito, only one out of 3-hundred will get sick...and a very small percentage of those will become seriously ill.

Roanoke Police are investigating a string of burglaries at several churches.

They say at least a dozen churches have been hit over the last three weeks. Typically, they've been broken into through a window during the night. Burglars have taken everything from food and petty cash, to electronic equipment.

The reward to track down whoever's been harming dogs in the Danville area has grown to more than 26-hundred dollars.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says it will add a thousand dollars to the fund established by the Danville Area Humane Society.
Four dogs in the Danville area and one in nearby Providence, North Carolina have been found scalded in recent weeks.

The Boys and Girls Club in the New River Valley celebrated the end of their summer program with a field day this afternoon. This is the first year the group hosted a full day, Monday through Friday, licensed program for kids in the area. Organizers say they wanted to end a successful summer with some fun.
