Roanoke police believe they have solved several recent church burglaries, and they're checking to see if the same suspect may be responsible for similar cases in recent weeks.

Regional health officials say eight more birds have tested positive in the Roanoke Valley, alone.
Five of the birds were found in Roanoke City, two in Roanoke County, and one in Salem.
Some areas in the state, including Richmond and Arlington County, are putting more emphasis on controlling the population of mosquitos, which spread the virus.
In our district, nine mosquito traps have been set up in various locations, but, so far, no results have been positive.

State health officials say they may end testing birds for the virus, now that they know West Nile is definitely here.
But, they warn people should still report dead birds to health departments, so the state can keep count.

A North Carolina man is in jail after allegedly traveling to Bedford County yesterday to have sex with an underaged girl.
Sheriff's authorities say 42-year-old Paul Eric Daniel of Cary, North Carolina was arrested in the New London area of the county last night.
Daniel had been communicating over the Internet with an undercover officer posing as a 13-year-old girl.
He's being held without bond.

A woman will spend 30-years in prison for the murder of a Roanoke man vacationing in Myrtle Beach.

Fifty-year-old John Milton Bird of Roanoke was found beaten and stabbed to death at a motel in September 2000.
Yesterday, Amanda Rankin entered an Alford plea to charges of voluntary manslaughter and strong-arm robbery.
An Alford plea does not admit guilt, but acknowledges the existence of enough evidence for a conviction.
Rankin's husband, Jeremy Shaw, and Douglas Hooper entered pleas for their role in the robbery and killing.

A new study by two Liberty University researchers has confirmed what many elderly people had been hoping was true.. that the herb ginkgo biloba (GING-ko bih-LOH-buh) DOES help improve their memory.

Doctors Joseph Mix and David Crews studied 262 healthy people over the age of 60 and found that those taking the extract "Ginkgold" showed memory improvement in 11 of 13 testing areas.

Major League Baseball moved another step closer to a work stoppage today as the players' union set a strike date of August 30th - two weeks from today.

The decision was made this afternoon in New York, and the owners responded by saying they are disappointed. While there is a chance something can be done before the strike date, the odds are not good. There have been eight work stoppages since 1972. The last strike began August 12th, 1994 and lasted 232 days, wiping out the World Series for the first time in 90 years. It took a federal judge to end that mess.

The Pulaski and Radford Chambers of Commerce is hosting a Farewell Memorial Bridge party this Sunday to give residents the chance to say goodbye to the old bridge, before it's torn down.
The bridge was built in 1949 and connects the city of Radford to Pulaski County.
It will be replaced by two new bridges, one of which opened last Friday.
Organizers say the Memorial Bridge did more than connect towns, it connected people.

These are the latest known recorded pictures of Jennifer before she was abducted sometime early Thursday morning. They were taken at a convenience store not far from where she lived. Authorities say autopsy results confirm that both her parents died from gunshot wounds to the head. As the investigation continues around the home, the search for Jennifer continues. But despite nationwide publicity, only a few possible leads have been called into Henry County.
