It's a tactic often used to fight forest fires... but instead of water, low-flying planes will be dropping rabies medicine over the forests of Southwest Virginia
Beginning August 27-th, the state and U-S Department of Agriculture will drop bait, containing a rabies vaccine across a two-thousand square-mile area in far Southwest Virginia.
Officials say people and pets cannot get rabies from coming into contact with the bait.
Last year, Virginia saw more than 500 cases of rabid animals.
