A Buchanan man is dead after attempting to cross the James River near Arcadia. Officials say 32-year- old James Luther Begley was wading across the river around 7:30 last night with a group of friends. When he and another man decided to return to their campsite, the water was deeper than they expected.. and they had to swim. Begley reportedly called to his friend that he was getting tired and then went under twice before disappearing. Begley's body was found early this morning by the Rockbridge County Sheriff's Department Dive Team. Authorities do not suspect foul play.
