Father Rule was asked to step down from his post as pastor of Saint Andrew's Catholic Church by Bishop Walter Sullivan yesterday evening.
The 53-year-old priest is being accused by an adult male of one incident of sexual abuse that took place when the alleged victim was a minor.

Father Rule has also been directed to undergo a psychological evaluation.
Diocese officials are not saying when or where the alleged abuse took place.

They say Rule, who was ordained in 1974, has never been investigated by the diocese in the past.
The matter has been handed over to the newly formed sexual abuse review board.
The seven-member board will hold their very first meeting after Labor Day.

Before today's allegations even surfaced - - Father Rule was getting ready to leave St. Andrews. Next weekend was to be his last at the church. We're told by the Parish Office this was in the works since last May and that it has nothing to do with these latest developments.

Hundreds of workers at Salem's G-E plant got some grim news today. Approximately 200- employees, mostly in manufacturing, are being laid off.

A company spokesman says there's little chance the workers will be called back. Additional layoffs are also a possibility next year.
The Salem G-E plant--- which delivers drive and control systems for the industrial market- is blaming tough economic

Officials say vacation time and rising health care costs were the most debated issues. The new contract covers about 72-hourly workers. It's in effect through next September.

The Augusta County Sheriff's Office is asking for help solving the murder of a Lexington couple. We confirmed just before newstime that the female victim was scheduled to testify against a former boyfriend accused of abducting and raping her. That court date was originally scheduled for today, but was continued before the murders.

The bodies of 40-year old Rhonda Chaplin and her 51-year old husband Timothy were found at the intersection of Dabney's Lane and Cold Spring Road early Sunday morning. Both were apparently shot to death in or near their car. Rhonda worked at VDOT where one co-worker says the situation is surreal.

Investigators believe robbery is the motive behind the shooting death of a Martinsville man.

Two adults and a juvenile have been charged with killing 22- year old Michael Lenell Angelo Carter. Gary Joyce, Antomino Cosby, both 21 and from Martinsville and a 17 year old suspect have all been taken into custody.

The victim was shot in the head Friday night at the home of an acquaintance at the Collinsville Mobile Home park.

It looks like Italian body builder Antonelli Grilli WILL be released from the Roanoke City jail and be allowed to return to Rome, pending trial in Miami.

The 36 year old body builder remains in the city jail tonight, until her mother wires 250-thousand dollars from her bank in New York to Roanoke . Her mother, an Italian diplomat herself, appeared in court today along with the Italian consul to Virginia. Neither of them would speak with us on camera. Late today they secured a letter from the Italian Embassy, pledging to assure Grilli's appearance in Miami for trial.

The government claims Grilli works as a courier, carrying cash and the club drug, "ecstasy," allegedly using the international body building competition as a cover for her travels. She was arrested at a Jan Tana competition in Lynchburg.

The orientation program for new students includes a community service day .. in which all freshmen perform service work at various agencies and cultural centers in the Roanoke and Salem areas.
