He's promising to solve the case.. while admitting it is the toughest one he has ever faced.
That was the word from Henry County Sheriff Frank Cassell yesterday .. as the search continues for whoever abducted nine year old Jennifer Short .. and murdered her parents.
Cassell says it's still his theory that whoever committed the crime knew the Shorts and would have ties to the community.

Saturday night's episode of "America's Most Wanted" generated what sounded like a solid lead in the Knoxville, Tennessee area .. but Cassell says it has not panned out.
Each member of his investigative team got a day off this weekend .. their first since the murders were discovered.
As investigators still look for the information that could help them break the case open .. many Henry County residents are seeking help from another source.

Today an autopsy is scheduled to identify a second set of human remains found at the home of an Oregon man police say is a murder suspect.

Authorities believe the remains they found in Ward Weaver's backyard are those of 13- year- old Ashley Pond, who disappeared in January.
The F-B-I says another body found on Saturday is 13- year- old Miranda Gaddis, who disappeared two months later.

He's already in jail, arrested earlier this month on an un- related charge of raping his son's girlfriend.
Henry County authorities have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a 22-year-old Martinsville man.

They say 21 year old Gary Marquince Joyce was arrested last night and
charged with the murder of Michael Lanell Angelo Carter.
Carter was shot and killed Friday night at the home of an acquaintance at the Collinsville Mobile Home Park.
Joyce is also charged with attempted robbery and two counts of using a firearm to commit a felony.
Investigators say the apparent motive was robbery, and that drugs may have also been involved.
Investigators say there may be more arrests.
Augusta County authorities have a double murder mystery on their hands.
The victims are a Lexington husband and wife who had been out to dinner Saturday night in Staunton.
Officials say 40- year- old Rhonda Chaplin and 51- year- old Timothy Chaplin were shot several times between midnight and two A-M.

Their bodies were discovered just north of the Rockbridge County line, at the intersection of Dabney's Lane and Cold Spring Road.
Mrs. Chaplin was found in the driver's seat of her car and her husband was found outside the vehicle.

Authorities say more than a million workers and soldiers
have been mobilized to shore up the embankments of China's
second-largest freshwater lake during the past week.
Sources say White House attorneys have told President Bush that he does NOT need Congressional approval to launch an attack against Iraq.
Two administration officials say White House counsel advised Bush earlier this month that the Constitution gives the President that authority.
However, the officials also say the President has not ruled out seeking lawmakers' approval if he decides to attack.
The officials noted that Bush's father was told in advance of
the Gulf War that HE did not need congressional authority to act,
but still sought its approval.
She is barely a teenager, but a Smith Mountain Lake girl is making big waves as a water skier.
13- year- old Michaela (Mik-KAY-la) Cooper captured the Girls- two National championship earlier this month in Texas.
Michaela also holds the state and regional slalom record for the 10- to- 13- year- old age group.
Her parents say that with the sport, one mistake can be the end and it is sometimes nerve- racking to see their daughter flying across the water.

A van that ran a stop sign .. and failure to use a seat belt .. made for a fatal combination yesterday afternoon.

It happened shortly after three P-M .. at state route 100 and Old Giles Road, just north of Dublin near the Pulaski County fairgrounds.
State police identify the victim as 19 year old Calvin Eugene Richards of Snowville, a passenger in the pickup.
According to police, a West Virginia woman ran the stop sign, causing the pickup to overturn-- throwing Richards out.
No one else was seriously hurt. State police say no one in the pickup was wearing a seat belt.
Charges against the van driver are pending.
Two people have been selected to head- up the newly formed Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corporation.

Cletus Nicely -- chairman of the Alleghany County board of supervisors will oversee the group.
A vice-chair has also been chosen for the corporation.
Temple Kessinger... who's the mayor of Covington, will take over those responsibilities.
The corporation, which was formed in May, will market the region to relocating and expanding businesses.
It's comprised of elected leaders from Alleghany County-- as well as the towns of Iron Gate and Clifton Forge-- along with the city of Covington.
