Thousands of Virginia Tech and L-S-U fans lined the streets of Downtown Blacksburg last night and early this morning to celebrate today's game. But for police, it was anything but a night on the town. News 7's Richard Lesko was at the disturbance early this morning-- where some 100- police officers were called out.

What began as a night of revelry for football fans, quickly turned into a situation that police saw as a threat. They were concerned about what might happen-- after an estimated two to three thousand people began celebrating at the corner of Main Street and College Avenue.

Police say the mass started with chants from Virginia Tech and L-S-U fans, and then even more people joined in blocking the street and celebrating. After the entire Blacksburg police department was called out, Virginia State police, Virginia Tech police and the Montgomery County Sheriff's office...all responded to help disperse the crowd.

If you're planning to stretch your time in a parking spot in Downtown Roanoke, you could find a heftier parking ticket on your windshield.

An overtime parking violation will now cost 15 dollars, and blocking a fire hydrant will now draw a 38 dollar fine. Downtown business owners have commented that parking violators were hurting their business because customers could not find parking spots. The Roanoke Police Department conducted a survey of 10 Virginia cities, and found that the city's parking ticket fines were low, and may have contributed to parking violations.

A memorial service was held in honor of Chauncey Spencer who passed away last week at the age of 95. Spencer was the son of the famous poet Anne Spencer-- and made a name for himself as one of the nation's first black pilots.

In fact-- it was Spencer's flight from Chicago to Washington D-C in 1939 that convinced then-Senator Harry Truman to create a division of the Air Corps known as the Tuskegee Airmen.
