We'll begin our coverage of this anniversary of the 9-11 attacks at Ground Zero, where the names of 28- hundred victims were read during a solemn ceremony today.
The event included a moment of silence at exactly 8-46 A-M, the moment when the first plane hit the World Trade Center a year ago.
Thousands of people are gathered near the site.

Among the many area observances today .. a retired New York City firefighter who lost his son in the World Trade Center joined more than a hundred people to honor the dead in Rocky Mount.

Bill Kennedy and his wife, Eileen, moved to Smith Mountain Lake more than a decade ago.
Their son, Tom Kennedy, also a New York City firefighter, was in a building adjacent to the World Trade Center, which also collapsed.
They thanked the crowd at Rocky Mount's Lynch Funeral Home for their support.

They're collecting non-perishable food, gently-worn clothing, and used books for children and adults.

Newly- hired federal security directors are telling workers to be vigilant.
All federal air marshals are expected to be on flights.
The Coast Guard has increased patrols and inspections.
And Amtrak says it'll have extra police officers on patrol.
But most officials expect travel to be rather light today.
