Amherst County authorities aren't sure why a Madison Heights woman killed her young son then fatally shot herself this morning.

Deputies were called to this home at 208 Fairfax Circle around 11:15 today.
That's where they found 44-year-old Cheryl An Bonfanti (bon-FAHN-tee) and her four-year-old son Joseph dead of apparent gunshot wounds.
Police say Bonfanti killed her son before committing suicide.
A handgun was found at the scene, but no motive has been determined.

Still, Sheriff Cassell says he's certain Henry County will solve the case.
Starting tomorrow, divers are being called to search parts of Philpott Lake for clues... the Sheriff isn't saying why.
Investigators have performed lie detector tests on about a dozen people who knew the Shorts ... but Cassell says its served to eliminate suspects more than implicate them.
He acknowledges that each day Jennifer is missing makes her personal safety more critical.
Many of Jennifer's relatives, like her uncle Frank Arrington, believe someone may be holding her.

VDOT says a barricade wall may be all that's needed for Roanoke's Liberty Road Bridge to be re-opened to traffic.

The bridge was damaged yesterday when it was struck by a vehicle on Interstate-581 that was too tall to pass underneath.
Southbound traffic was limited to one lane until early this morning.
The bridge, however, is still closed.
VDOT says a couple of the span's re-inforced concrete beams are damaged but that it is still structurally sound enough to support traffic.
Officials are discussing the use of a barricade wall to direct vehicles away from the damaged areas.
They hope to re-open the bridge next week.

We're talking about new brighter traffic headlights called High Intensity discharge also known as H-I-D headlights.
According to manufacturer's, H-I-D headights provide 70-percent more usable light than traditional headlights.
The lights usually have a blue tint and are found mainly on luxury cars.
Many motorists say they're blinded by the light.
