The bridge was damaged yesterday when it was struck by a vehicle on Interstate-581 that was too tall to pass underneath. Southbound traffic was limited to one lane until early this morning. The bridge, however, is still closed. VDOT says a couple of the span's re-inforced concrete beams are damaged but that it is still structurally sound enough to support traffic. Officials are discussing the use of a barricade wall to direct vehicles away from the damaged areas. They hope to re-open the bridge next week.
