During the hearing, prosecutors argued the men are a flight risk and a danger to national security.
Prosecutors cited an e-mail allegedly from suspect Mukhtar Al Bakri to a man in Western New York state.
In the e-mail prosecutors alleged Al Bakri wrote in code about an upcoming terrorist attack saying the next meal will be very huge. No one will be able to bear it.

After two decades on the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors, Harry Nickens is stepping down. The Vinton Supervisor is leaving western Virginia to accept a position in central Kentucky.

Nickens has been named President of the Ephraim (EFF-rum) McDowell Health Care Foundation and Vice President of the Ephraim McDowell Health System. The organization is based in Danville, Kentucky and operates fifteen facilities.
Nickens was the President of the College of Health Sciences for eleven years. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the school's foundation. He will assume his new duties in Kentucky by November first.

The women's Institute for Leadership at Mary Baldwin College - it's just one program that could be cut as a result of state budget woes
The Virginia Space Grant Consortium is another.
Those are just some of the proposals coming from the State Council of Higher Education-
It's done with its proposed budget cuts of 7, 11 and 15 percent for the governor.
Governor Warner wants all state agencies to present him with three seperate budget plans by Friday.
Higher cuts are proposed for other programs, including one that encourages minority students to pursue doctoral degrees and then teach in Virginia schools.
Meanwhile, State employees got some bad news straight from the Governor today.

A third party apparently called 9-1-1. Police noticed abrasions and scrapes on Finley- and arrested Kitaen.

Roanoke County wants to make sure it'll never run out of water.

Since June, the county's been pumping water that leaks out of the dam at Spring Hollow reservoir back into the lake. Two pumps collect about one day's worth of water every two weeks. The County's also digging several test wells in between the dam and treatment facility. IF significant water is found, Utility Director Gary Robertson says he hopes it can be pumped into the treatment facility, treated, and then sent directly to customers. Together, Roanoke County and City pull 10 to 11 million gallons of water a day from the reservoir.

A rescue worker reached the stranded pooch as was able to reach the stranded pooch- put him in a harness- and slowly walk him up that wall of stone.
Colby is a one year old Siberian Husky Mix.

The Virginia High School League's Executive Committee met yesterday in Charlottesville and the main item on the agenda was what to do with the Blue Ridge District - make it an eleven team district for next year or split it into two divisions. Several schools including Salem, Pulaski and Fleming were opposed to a split, so they probably won't be thrilled with the end result. The VHSL voted to split the league into one five team division and another six team division.

Pittsburgh has officially announced an extension of the player development contract with Lynchburg that began in 1995. The deal will run through the 2006 season. In eight seasons with the Pirates, Lynchburg has fielded two Carolina League Champions and has been to the Mills Cup Series three times.
