The storm has strengthened into a Category Three hurricane and could soon become a destructive Category Four storm. Isidore is churning toward Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula with winds of about 120 miles an hour. Today at a Corpus Christi Home Depot store, residents were asking for advice in storm-proofing their homes. The storm's expected to drift slowly west along the north coast of the Yucatan for several days -- and then get stronger over the warm Gulf of Mexico waters.

The visitors from Murfreesboro, North Carolina are coached by the legendary Lou Saban, who at the age of 81 is in his 52nd year as a head coach. The Panthers had opened the season with two disappointing losses, but today they came out fired up. The defense set the tone as defensive end Brett Griffin breaks free and sacks Chowan freshman quarterback Kevin Helmlinger. Then on the next to last play of the first quarter - former Covington star Darren Venable would also break free, and he blocks the Chowan punt out of the endzone for a safety. It's 2-to-nothing Panthers. Ferrum then went to a little razzle-dazzle in the second quarter, as Terrell Mulford comes around on the flanker option and fires a perfect strike down field to Gary Buchanan. He makes the catch and takes the ball all the way to the Chowan one yard line.

On the very next play - Anthony Jones slams in off the left side for the TD to make it a 9-to-nothing game. Dave Davis and the Panthers open Dixie conference play with the 9-to-nothing win.
