It happened around 8-30 tonight.

Police say it happened after an assault at the Frontier Apartment Complex on Plantation Road.
Officers say a group of men was walking away from the apartments when another group drove by in a car.
Someone fired one shot from inside the vehicle.
The bullet hit 19-year old Robert Hopson of Roanoke in the thigh.
He was taken to Roanoke Memorial hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A police spokesperson says officers aren't yet sure what set off the incident but they are looking for suspects tonight.

Fire damaged a home in Roanoke County tonight.

When firefighters got to the home on Carvins Cove Road, flames were already shooting through the roof.
They had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes.
The owners weren't home at the time and no one was hurt.
No estimate yet on how much damage the blaze caused.

The North Carolina Medical Examiner's office says the human remains found in Rockingham County are those of a young girl shot once in the head.
Authorities don't know yet if the remains are those of Jennifer Short, but today they took steps to expedite the DNA testing.

From the evidence already found, Rockingham Sheriff Sam Page says dental analysis suggested the victim was a nine year old white female.
And he confirmed that other remains were sent to Roanoke for more testing.

Only then will authorities know sure if the remains are those of Jennifer Short... missing since her parents were found shot to death in their home on August 15th.
In the meantime, searchers will continue their grim task with determination.

The family of Lori Metts Hodges Boyd has already established a trust fund for her four children. ((A man's suit, a rusted clarinet and a charm necklace are some of the personal items on display at the Titanic Science exhibit.
More than one hundred artifacts have been recovered from the Titanic which rests two and a half miles beneath the surface of the ocean.
Helen McKinney is the great granddaughter of the famous Titanic survivor, the unsinkable Molly Brown.
She says the exhibit brings out the personal side of the tragedy.

Roanoke police have charged two teenagers with making a bomb threat at Patrick Henry High School.
The campus was evacuated around lunchtime in response to the threat. No bomb was found.

The Roanoke opens its second season of NBDL basketball at the Roanoke Civic Center in a little over a month on November 15th. Yesterday, a couple of team members made history by becoming the first Dazzle players to sign an NBA contract. Guard Danny Earl - signed with the New Jersey Nets,

while seven foot center Anthony Pelle has inked a deal with the Detroit Pistons. Pelle was the Dazzle's top rebounder last season. Pelle was the Denver Nuggets second round pick in 1995.

Blacksburg won the Region Three golf championship yesterday by one stroke over Pulaski County. Oliver Chapman of Blacksburg won the individual title with a 67, while Pulaski Ryan Sypniewski was just one stroke back with a 68. Both teams will advance to the state Group Two A tournament. Byrd's Logan Mueller and Ben Chocklett also earned a spot in the state event.

The movie tells the story of how Boone overcame racial hatred to lead T.C. Williams High School to the 19-71 State Football Championship. Now retired, he travels.
